- Description
The work is built from overlapping shapes, lines and areas of color, the relationships of which remain open. The eye searches for recognizable things in the image, but the shapes evade unambiguous interpretation and continue through each other. The name ∞ refers to infinity, but also to movement without a clear beginning or end. The parts of the image form a network in which no single element is permanently placed in the foreground. The white areas function as actively as the drawn and colored shapes: the image is created from the tension between presence and absence. The work can be seen as a moment in an ongoing process — as an order that could continue endlessly beyond the edges of the image.
